A game developer's and a player's perspective

At the beginning of the app development process, I made a note of the points of view that people who develop games need to consider and the perspectives that people who play the games want. This is an article for developers.

I recorded what kind of game would be easy to play, or would it be less of a hassle.

I'm going to use this as a reference material to review when I develop not only games but also other applications in the future.

The developer's perspective and the app's user's perspective.

When developing a small game like this site, I think the person who plays the most is probably you.

But if you're going to publish your game, it's better for other people, too. We'd like to publish useful and fun apps and games for you to play, so I wanted to divide my head into two parts, the developer's perspective and the perspective of the people who play the app, and sort out what I needed to do.

First, I thought about what I wanted to achieve when playing the app myself (i.e. requirements) and how to deal with them, and then I itemized them into a list.

Next, I put myself in the user's (the player's) shoes and itemized what I thought would be necessary to make playing the app stress-free.

A player's perspective.

Here are the first requirements that come to mind from a player's perspective.

  1. how to play ... I want to be able to play easily from a browser on my phone or computer, no installation required.
  2. save function ... I want to save my personal progress so that I can see what I've learned and how much I've learned. I want to be able to save and read data across devices.
  3. full screen ... I want to be able to play the game when the screen is as big as it can be
  4. support for a variety of devices ... I want to be able to support the vertical and horizontal size of the phone, and the vertical and horizontal size of the browser.
  5. speed ... I don't want to wait for a lot of downloads when I play. I want a game that runs lightly.

A developer's point of view.

Here are the requirements from the app developer's side

  1. you want to release it on the net, but you don't want to spend a lot of money on a server. I want to realize it from about 1,000 yen per month. If the load increases, we want to increase the server specs step by step. 2.
  2. basic security measures and data protection system are built in. 3.
  3. you want to spend less time on infrastructure maintenance such as servers. You want to concentrate on application development. 4.
  4. main development is carried out by one administrator alone, but in the future it should be possible to separate data, graphics, scenario, and data responsibilities.
  5. make the game compatible with multiple languages. People from different countries can play the game. Structure to support not only the app but also the website. 6.
  6. check the status of people playing the app (no errors!) We should have an admin screen for checking errors so that you can check the
  7. you want to introduce Adsense ads as a maintenance cost for the game service. I want to add to the cost of maintaining the server. 8.
  8. since I want to publish it on the web, I want to do some SEO.
